Job Title: Vascular Technologist

Job Summary:

A Vascular Technologist specializes in performing non-invasive diagnostic imaging studies to evaluate the health of a patient’s vascular system, including arteries and veins. This role focuses on detecting and diagnosing conditions such as peripheral artery disease, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), carotid artery disease, and other vascular disorders using ultrasound, Doppler, and other specialized imaging techniques. The Vascular Technologist collaborates with physicians to contribute to diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform vascular ultrasound examinations, including carotid, arterial, venous, and abdominal aorta studies, as ordered by the physician.
  • Operate specialized vascular ultrasound equipment to assess blood flow, detect blockages, narrowing, and other abnormalities in arteries and veins.
  • Prepare patients for vascular exams by explaining procedures, positioning them correctly, and ensuring their comfort.
  • Recognize and document normal and abnormal vascular findings, providing detailed imaging results for physician interpretation.
  • Administer contrast agents, as necessary, and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Collaborate with vascular surgeons, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including imaging data, measurements, and detailed reports.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and ensure the proper cleaning and maintenance of vascular ultrasound equipment.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, ensuring patient safety during procedures.
  • Stay current with advancements in vascular technology and ultrasound imaging techniques through continuing education.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Vascular Technology.
  • Certification:
    • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in vascular ultrasound
