Job Title: Neonatal Registered Nurse (Neonatal RN)**

Job Summary:

A Neonatal Registered Nurse (Neonatal RN) provides specialized care to newborn infants, primarily those who are premature, critically ill, or require intensive monitoring due to medical conditions. The Neonatal RN focuses on supporting the health and well-being of newborns in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), ensuring their safety, growth, and development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and monitor the health and stability of newborn infants in NICU settings, including premature, ill, or high-risk babies.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and medical treatments as prescribed for neonatal patients.
  • Monitor and manage ventilators, oxygen therapy, and other life support equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care plans for each newborn.
  • Provide emotional and educational support to families of newborns, addressing their concerns and guiding them through the neonatal care process.
  • Support parents in infant care, including breastfeeding support, developmental care, and providing guidance on infant safety.
  • Identify and respond to complications such as respiratory distress, infections, jaundice, and nutritional needs.
  • Document and maintain detailed patient records, monitoring progress and treatment outcomes.
  • Administer neonatal resuscitation, if needed, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Ensure infection control measures and neonatal care protocols are followed to maintain patient safety.
  • Educate families on the care and management of newborns once they are discharged.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Licensure:
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Certification:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
    • Advanced Neonatal Care (RNC-NIC) certification preferred.
