Job Title: EKG Technologist

Job Summary:

An EKG Technologist performs diagnostic tests to evaluate the electrical activity of the heart, helping physicians detect and diagnose cardiovascular conditions such as arrhythmias, heart disease, and other heart-related disorders. They work closely with healthcare teams to provide accurate test results that aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs) to evaluate the heart’s electrical activity.
  • Set up and operate EKG machines, ensuring proper placement of electrodes for accurate results.
  • Record and analyze EKG data, documenting results and reporting findings to physicians.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide information on cardiac function.
  • Prepare patients for EKG procedures, explaining the process, ensuring patient comfort, and addressing any concerns.
  • Maintain patient records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in documentation of test results.
  • Ensure proper operation, calibration, and maintenance of EKG equipment.
  • Follow infection control protocols and ensure patient safety during procedures.
  • Educate patients on the purpose and results of EKG tests, answering questions and providing reassurance.
  • Assist in the development of patient care plans based on EKG findings.
  • Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advances in EKG technology and cardiovascular care.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification:
    • Certified EKG Technician (CET) preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience as an EKG Technician
