Job Summary:

n

A Critical Care Unit (CCU) Registered Nurse (CCU RN) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in acute, life-threatening situations. The CCU RN delivers high-level care to patients with complex medical needs, requiring continuous monitoring, advanced interventions, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

n

    n

  • Assess, plan, and provide nursing care to critically ill patients in the Critical Care Unit, including those with conditions such as heart attack, cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, sepsis, and post-surgical complications.
  • n

  • Monitor patients’ hemodynamic status, vital signs, and response to treatments, ensuring early identification and intervention of life-threatening conditions.
  • n

  • Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and specialized treatments such as vasoactive medications, pain management, and sedation.
  • n

  • Collaborate with intensivists, physicians, respiratory therapists, and other multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • n

  • Provide patient and family education on critical care procedures, condition management, and discharge planning.
  • n

  • Recognize and respond to arrhythmias, respiratory distress, and other life-threatening complications, implementing interventions according to established protocols.
  • n

  • Assist with procedures such as intubation, central line placement, arterial line monitoring, and other advanced interventions as needed.
  • n

  • Monitor and maintain mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitoring equipment, and other life support devices.
  • n

  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately and in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • n

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, contributing to care planning, goal setting, and discharge planning for critically ill patients.
  • n

Qualifications:

n

    n

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • n

  • Licensure:n
      n

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
    • n

    n

  • n

  • Certification:n
      n

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
    • n

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • n

    • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred.
    • n

    n
