Job Title: Dialysis Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN)**

Job Summary:

A Dialysis Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care to patients with acute or chronic kidney disease who require hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis treatment. The RN works closely with a multidisciplinary team to manage and monitor patients undergoing dialysis, ensuring optimal care and outcomes in an inpatient setting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis in an inpatient setting.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs, laboratory results, and dialysis-related parameters, ensuring optimal fluid and electrolyte balance.
  • Administer dialysis treatments, ensuring equipment is properly set up and functioning, and addressing any complications that arise during dialysis.
  • Educate patients on dialysis treatments, including the procedure, expected outcomes, and self-care post-treatment.
  • Collaborate with nephrologists, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
  • Monitor for and respond to complications related to dialysis, such as hypotension, cramping, infections, or electrolyte imbalances.
  • Administer medications as prescribed, including anticoagulants, antihypertensives, and other dialysis-related medications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, dialysis treatments, and interventions.
  • Advocate for patients’ needs, ensuring timely access to dialysis treatments and other related care.
  • Participate in patient education and training programs related to kidney disease, dialysis, and renal health.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families dealing with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support the overall care of patients with renal conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Licensure:
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Certification:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Dialysis certification (e.g., Certified Nephrology Nurse – CNN) preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in dialysis, nephrology, or critical care nursing
